Searching For The Best Sandwich

sand⋅wich –noun Two or more slices of bread or the like with a layer of meat, fish, cheese, etc., between each pair. Trying to find the best sandwich out there!
Los Angeles: ABC Burger at The Stand
The burger patty itself was really well cooked and juicy, but I really couldn’t taste much from the avocado, bacon, and ranch.

New York City: Tomato and Mozzarella at Dean and Deluca
The bread was soft and chewy, and salting the mozzarella was a smart touch. Overall though, not a whole lot of flavor even from the pesto.

New York City: Caramelized Figs, Raspberry Compote, and Goat cheese at Little Muenster
A very different grilled cheese than the usual savory ones I find! Nice and delicious combination of sweet and tangy but ultimately not very filling.

Santa Monica: Lox Bagel at Sheraton Delfina Hotel
A bit of a DIY sandwich here but that’s fine by me given the ingredients were all very fresh tasting!

Los Angeles: Grilled Cheese at the Soho House
This grilled cheese was absolutely delicious, though a bit of a stretch to call it a grilled cheese since the majority of it was made up of tasty braised short ribs. The very buttery and rich thick cut bread was honestly my favorite part actually!

New York City: The Cadillac at PJ Clarkes
This classic NY spot and burger are great in their simplicity. A simple well cooked burger with melt in your mouth bacon on a fluffy white bread bun. Only complaint is American cheese which is always iffy for me.

Santa Monica: The California Turkey Melt at Daily Grill
Really great flavor combo on this sandwich. The pepper turkey was balanced with the sweet tomato chutney and the middle ground of the avocado nicely.

New York City: Little Ham at Valley Shepherd Creamery
The ham was nice and smokey tasting which went well with the sweet pear. The rough ground mustard also added a nice little pop texture of all the seeds.

Los Angeles: Cheesburger at In-N-Out Burger
This was the first thing I did when I got to LA last week, definitely one of the best fast food style burgers!

New York City: Vermont Cheddar Sandwich at Silver Moon Bakery
Good quality cheddar went very well with the rye and mustard. The cucumber and lettuce added a nice crunch but the sandwich was missing something overall. Also, being premade the bread was a bit soggy.

New York City: Black and Bleu at Clarke’s Standard
This burger joint outpost of Clarke’s just opened and had some serious lines to prove it. They brag about the fresh ground angus beef, which was definitely the strongest part of this sandwich. Otherwise the bacon was chewy, not enough blue cheese, and the bun suffered the steam driven sogginess that take out unfortunately causes.
I will definitely be back to try their basic burgers and eat inside next time though!

Everywhere: Italian Deli Deluxe at Charley’s Grilled Subs
Chopping up the italian meats and warming them on the grill was a pretty good change of pace for a common sandwich. While nothing special taste wise, it’s definitely on the better side of chain sandwich spots!

New York City: Steamed Pork Buns at Momofuku Noodle BarThis is borderline not a sandwich to me but most people consider it to be, and since it tasted so good I decided I had to include it! Biting into this is like biting into a cloud. A delicious warm cloud stuff with roasted pork belly. This is a NYC must have!

New York City: The Burger at 12th Street Bar and Grill
This was unexpectedly one of the best burgers I’ve had. Inside an unassuming little bar on my street, this basic in the best way burger was so perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I highly recommend this one!

New York City: Mallorquin at DespanaThis sandwich had a chorizo spread, pressed and drizzled with warm honey. At first the sweet/savory combo was nice, but after a few bites the spice of the chorizo with it became a little odd.http://www.despanabrandfoods.com/
